FPI, League of Women Voters, others call out Constitution Revision Commission for Moving Forward Less Than 1 Percent of Public Proposals

In a letter to Constitution Revision Commission Chairman Carlos Beruff, 13 organizations expressed shock and disappointment that only six of more than 2,000 public proposals (0.3 percent) were moved forward by the CRC for further consideration.

The Florida Policy Institute joined 12 other organizations in signing on to the letter: ACLU of Florida, Common Cause Florida, League of Women Voters Florida, Florida Education Association, SEIU Florida, Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, Florida First Amendment Foundation, Progress Florida, Florida NOW, Florida AFL-CIO, AFSCME Florida and For Our Future.

The letter notes the stark contrast to the last CRC in 1997-98, during which all 696 proposals were read before the commission, with 128 of them (18.4 percent) achieving the threshold of the 10 votes needed to move forward for further consideration. Another 69 public proposals that fell short of the threshold were also moved forward.
