Disaster Basics: D-SNAP

Florida’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps put food on the table of Floridians in need year-round. Disaster SNAP (D-SNAP) is one of the ways that SNAP can help Floridians after a disaster.

D-SNAP provides temporary grocery assistance to people who need help paying for food after a widespread disaster, like a hurricane or a tornado. D-SNAP is only for people who are not currently getting regular SNAP. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) can only offer D-SNAP after the President declares a disaster for people living in the affected area. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) must approve the state’s request for a D-SNAP program.
