Statement on US House Approval of Legislation That Would Extend Enhanced Premium Tax Credits

FPI released the statement below following the U.S. House passage of legislation that would extend the enhancements on Premium Tax Credits.

A bipartisan House vote in favor of extending the ACA tax credit enhancements for three years is a bold move in the right direction for the health and financial well-being of 4.7 million Floridians. The cost shock of the credit expiration has Floridians scrambling due to premiums spiking — in some cases, even tripling.

However, it’s beyond disappointing that the entire Florida delegation did not support this common-sense measure, which would help prevent our state’s health care systems and families from falling over a cost cliff.

The last thing Floridians can afford right now is a dramatic increase in health care premiums to pay for tax cuts skewed to the wealthiest individuals in the nation.

We encourage the Senate to take up the bill in the coming days — every day that passes without a solution is a day that more Floridians are forced to forgo lifesaving health coverage.
