Statement From Florida Policy Institute on FY 2022-23 State Budget

The statement below was released after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law the state budget for fiscal year 2022-23.

As FPI has noted, federal dollars played a major role in helping state lawmakers plug budget holes and preserve important budget priorities.

The higher minimum wage for state employees is one of the bright spots in Florida’s state budget. Lawmakers’ investment in workers will help strengthen communities and jumpstart local economies.

However, cuts to programs and services are never felt proportionately — they hurt people trying to get by on low income the most — and so the hundreds of millions in line-item vetoes for things like after school programs, community health centers, and water projects will ultimately make it harder for those Floridians already facing roadblocks to thrive.
