FY 2025-26 Budget Vetoes by County: an Interactive Map

For Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-26, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed a total of $370 million from the main budget sections and $980 million from back-of-the-bill appropriations (a combined total of $1.35 billion). Compared to the FY 2024-25 main-section vetoes, the governor vetoed $580 million less; compared to back-of-the-bill vetoes, the governor vetoed $573 million more than in FY 2024-25. The governor's vetoes are available for consideration, by the Legislature, until the end of the 2026 regular session. The Legislature can override or set aside the governor’s vetoes if two-thirds of the members of each chamber vote to do so.

The following tool looks at the governor’s vetoes and total appropriations by county. These vetoes account for $271 million (or 73 percent) of all FY 2025-26 main-budget vetoes. The majority of these vetoes impact specific member projects or programs. While member projects can be effective in directing funding to community needs, earmarks also pose challenges related to transparency, competition among legislators, and the potential misallocation of state resources. Consequently, it is important for legislators to carefully consider the impact of earmarks and for the public to hold policymakers accountable for their choices.

To assist the public and add transparency concerning the FY 2025-26 vetoes, Florida Policy Institute has developed a tool to show vetoes as they impact counties.

To use the tool, you can select any county (or combination of counties) to see the line-items vetoed from the General Appropriations Act FY 2025-26 and the final appropriation total; click on the map directly; scroll through the table; or use the filters to select a county or program type. Finally, the tool omits line-item vetoes of appropriations that impact statewide operations ($97 million), items that impact multiple counties ($1.47 million), and back-of-the-bill vetoes ($980 million).
